August Blood Drives
EVENTS
OKMULGEE, OK — There will be two blood drives within the next two weeks at the Muscogee Nation. The first one is at Muscogee Nation Physical Rehabilitation Center, on Monday, August 3. The next blood drive is at the Muscogee Nation Complex, on Tuesday, Aug. 11. August is also the start of the Tribal Blood Drive Challenge: the Five Civilized Tribes are competing for who brings in the most donors.
Summer is one of the most challenging times of year for the blood supply. Vacations, changing schedules, and the start of a new school year often lead to fewer donations, yet, the need for blood never takes time-off.
A major U.S. blood provider is now limiting Type O blood distributions to the hospitals it serves, because of the severity of the national blood shortage. Our Blood Institute has never had to ration blood to our hospital partners, and we do not want to reach that point. We are asking donors to respond now, so our hospitals can continue receiving the blood they need, when they need it, without having to make difficult decisions about which patients receive available blood.
Blood donation takes about an hour, but the impact can last a lifetime. One donation saves up to three lives.
- 16-year-olds must weigh at least 125 pounds, and provide signed parental permission;
- 17-year-olds must weigh at least 125 pounds;
- 18+ year olds must weigh at least 110 pounds. Photo ID required.
Every two seconds someone needs blood, and your donation will save someone’s life! Please help us provide blood for patients in our area hospitals.

Are you O-negative or do you know someone that is O-negative? We have an extra special thank-you for you! From August 10–12, all O-negative donors at our centers and mobile drives will receive both a Dog Days of Summer t-shirt and our O-negative Blood Matters t-shirt. O-negative donors play a critical role in helping patients, especially when blood is needed in an emergency.
